Yenagoa, June 19, 2025
In a significant move that adds a seal of cultural prestige to the Bayelsa International Film Festival (BIFF), His Royal Majesty, King Bubaraye Dakolo graciously received the festival’s organizing team during a courtesy visit earlier today and accepted to serve as the Royal Father of the festival.
During the warm and engaging visit, the revered King not only accepted the honour but also commended the team for their initiative and vision. He urged them to give their best in projecting Bayelsa State on the global map through storytelling and quality film production. His Majesty emphasized the importance of training local filmmakers through masterclasses, enabling them to tell authentic Ijaw and Niger Delta stories effectively.
Leading the delegation was Mr. Moses Etonzor, the Founder of BIFF, who introduced his passionate team members: Ayebakuro Solomon Bina, Timiblessing Christopher, Fedude Azigbeotu, Preye Abio, and Rejoice Obuma. The atmosphere was one of excitement and gratitude as the team celebrated this major milestone.
According to Mr. Etonzor, the acceptance of King Bubaraye Dakolo as Royal Father, alongside Professor Steve Azaiki as Patron, adds immense credibility and cultural weight to the festival. “This is not just a win for BIFF, but for the entire creative ecosystem of Bayelsa. We are deeply honoured,” he stated.
The 5th edition of the Bayelsa International Film Festival is poised to be its most impactful yet, with strong royal and intellectual endorsements now solidly in place.
